Warm Up- 8/10/14

I think it isnt possible to be too different because everyone is different to eachother but not ‘too’ different. There is too many people on earth to view someone as ‘too’ different. If it was you and someone else in a room then maybe you could view them as too different but not when comparing millions of people to eachother.

Warm Up- 17/9/14

At Mount Waverley Secondary College grammar needs to be tought in english classes because it was really only taught briefly in primary school and early high school. It needs to be taught because its important to be able to distinguish between words that are similar otherwise it will not make sense.

The evidence in chapter 25 that shows that Mr Underwood thought that Toms death was inhumane. Mr Underwood compared this death to killing harmless birds, he thinks its a sin to kill a cripple. If he wants to make a fool of himself, thats his business so this means that it illustrates that the town thinks he shouldve been killed for running.

Warm Up- 19/8/14

The differences between an editorial and news report are, firstly news report is news that may have broke. Also facts that relate to the news report. An editorial is more opinionated by the editor, he tries to make you agree with him, its more on his side. Secondly the editor will try and persaude you to agree with what the editor is writing in the report.

Warm Up- 13/8/14

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird, Miss Maudie tells Jem that Scout is too young to understand the fact that Atticus is one of the only people to stand up and do the right thing in the community. He was trying to save Tom from being convicted because he was the only one that wanted to try and be brave and do the right thing. Harper Lee wants to try and tell the audience that if you be brave and do the right thing in any circimstance then everyone else may be inspired to go and do the same thing that you did. If Atticus is trying to make a change in society, he is doing it well becuase he is not trying to win the case. All he is doing is trying to set a strong example for everyone who may not be as courageous as him. Then in later years when everyone is grown up and understands that if you’re the first one in your community or anything else, you will be known as a really brave person and you will make a change in society.

Warm Up Activity

During the trial, Dill has to be taken out of the court room because of the way Mr Gilmer was treating Tom Robinson. Dill was affected by the trial of Tom because Mr Gilmer was poorly treating Tom during the case by throwing question after question in his face trying to force Tom to say im guilty. Also Tom was not used to being racially abused by Mr Gilmer and so he did not know how to react. Scout was trying to say to Dill that this was Mr Gilmers job and he has to do this to win the case, but she doesnt understand that the black people are not treated equally.
